At least four people have been killed and several others abducted following coordinated terrorist attacks on a church and multiple communities in Kogi State.

The incidents, which occurred on Sunday, have sparked renewed calls for urgent security intervention.

The first attack took place at the First ECWA Church in Ayetoro-Kiri, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, where gunmen stormed the service, killing one worshipper identified as Jayjay and abducting at least 20 others.

Local authorities warned the number of abducted persons could be higher. Chairman of Kabba/Bunu LGA, Zaccheus Dare Micheal, blamed the church for holding service despite security warnings and ordered the closure of all markets in the locality.

On the same day, terrorists struck Oke-Agi and Ilai communities in Mopamuro LGA around 4:00 a.m., killing three people, injuring several others, and abducting residents.

In Jamroro settlement, two Tiv residents were confirmed dead, while three others sustained injuries. In Ilai, a Bassa community near the Community Grammar School, one person was killed and three kidnapped.

The attacks were confirmed by Mopamuro LGA Chairman, Hon. Ademola Bello, alongside traditional rulers.

Residents expressed anger over what they described as a delayed security response, noting that the assailants operated freely for over an hour before help arrived. T

he incidents have revived memories of the November 30 attack on the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, where scores of worshippers were abducted.

As fear spreads across Yagba Federal Constituency, community leaders are urging security agencies to act more quickly.

“The attack started in neighbouring communities bordering Kwara State but has now graduated downward. No local government areas in Yagbaland are safe,” said Mr. Ope Owoyemi.
