Chinese Investors Choose Osun After Free Trade Zone Tour

Osun State opened its doors to new global prospects on Thursday evening as Governor Ademola Adeleke welcomed a high-powered delegation of multi-sectoral investors from China.

The visit, held at the Government House in Osogbo, came at a time when the state is pushing to deepen industrial growth and attract reputable international partners.

Adeleke said Osun is closing its infrastructural gaps to create a business climate that supports long-term investment.

He noted that the Osun Free Trade Zone, one of the state’s major economic corridors, already hosts several early-stage investors preparing for full operations. He insisted that the zone offers a rare blend of incentives, speed, and regulatory efficiency.

The governor explained that Osun’s reforms are anchored on technology, transparency, and reduced bottlenecks. He said the automated tax system has eased pressure on existing businesses, while the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy within 48 hours stands as one of the fastest processes in Nigeria.

According to him, these efforts push Osun to the top tier of states with improving ease-of-doing-business indicators, a ranking also monitored by sources like the World Bank Doing Business framework.

More investors, he said, are expected to move into the Free Trade Zone and other industrial clusters across the state in the coming months.

He assured the visiting Chinese team that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is prepared to provide professional guidance and full facilitation support for all credible investments.

Chinese Delegation Cites Davido, Good Governance as Key Motivation

The leader of the visiting investors, Dr. Yusuf Fadairo of Shanghai Fadewei International Trade Company Limited, offered a surprising but heartfelt reason for their interest in Osun State.

He said many Chinese investors admire global music star Davido, describing him as “more popular in China than Nigeria.” That admiration, he explained, naturally extended to the Osun State governor, given Davido’s well-known identity as a son of the state.

Fadairo said the group had followed media reports of Adeleke’s governance record, noting consistent improvements in infrastructure, policy stability, and administrative reform. These reports, he added, shaped Osun’s image as a safe and promising destination for long-term industrial operations.

The delegation expressed satisfaction with the utilities and facilities available at the Free Trade Zone. Fadairo said the company plans to establish multiple factories once regulatory documentation is completed. Could Osun become one of the fastest-growing industrial zones in southern Nigeria?

Factories, Jobs and Expectations for Osun’s Industrial Future

Members of the delegation included professionals across amusement park construction, paint manufacturing, logistics, and electric mobility — sectors that could reshape Osun’s industrial footprint.

Their participation signals interest in local manufacturing, renewable mobility technologies, and leisure infrastructure.

Top Osun officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye, and the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Rev. Bunmi Jenyo, attended the meeting.

Media entrepreneur Femi Adefila was also present. Government aides at the event said the visit represents a significant step in Osun’s mission to secure diverse foreign investments.

With global supply chains shifting and China expanding into African markets, how many new factories could Osun absorb in the next five years? And here’s an example of where soft power exemplified by Davido’s musical influence is playing an unexpected role in shaping his state’s economic fortunes.
