A Russian couple known for their wealth in cryptocurrency trading, Roman and Anna Novak, have been found dead in the United Arab Emirates, a month after they mysteriously went missing in Dubai.
According to reports by the Moscow Times, the New York Post, and Russian outlet Fontanka, the couple vanished after agreeing to meet an unidentified investor who had promised a lucrative business deal.
They were last seen on October 2 near Hatta Mountain Resort, where their driver dropped them off.
Moments later, the driver said he saw them transfer into another vehicle — a move now believed to have led to their abduction.
‘They Were Lured And Killed Over A Crypto Wallet’
Investigators said the kidnappers took the Novaks to a villa in Hatta village, where they demanded access to Roman’s cryptocurrency wallet.
When the suspects discovered the wallet was empty, they allegedly killed the couple in rage, mutilated their bodies, and dumped the remains — some in a mall trash bin and others buried in the desert.
Russian authorities later traced the couple’s phone signals to the Hatta Mountains and even to Cape Town, South Africa, before they went dark on October 4 — evidence suggesting that the kidnappers used false signals to mislead investigators.
Eight Russian nationals have been arrested in connection with the killings, including a former investor who claimed Novak defrauded him and a former officer of Russia’s Interior Ministry.
Three suspects face direct murder charges, while others are accused of aiding the crime by acquiring the weapons used.
‘Luxury, Fraud, And A Fatal Trap’
Roman Novak, founder of the crypto transfer platform Fintopio, had raised millions from investors across Russia, China, and the Middle East.
The couple’s social media pages show their extravagant lifestyle — private jets, luxury cars, and exotic vacations — drawing thousands of followers.
However, Russian media revealed that Novak had a murky past. He was previously convicted of cryptocurrency fraud, serving part of a six-year sentence for defrauding investors of around $100,000 before being released early.
