Kanu in Supreme Court, Files Final Appeal to Stop Terrorism Trial

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on Thursday personally arrived at the Supreme Court in Abuja to submit a letter to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

Kanu is requesting the CJN to discontinue his ongoing terrorism trial at the Federal High Court, Abuja, arguing that the case was initiated under a law that has since been repealed.

His visit represents a last-minute effort to halt proceedings before the trial, which is scheduled for judgment on November 20.

The IPOB leader was accompanied to the Supreme Court by officials of the Department of State Services (DSS).

This move follows an application Kanu filed yesterday at the Court of Appeal seeking a stay of proceedings in his trial before Justice James Omotosho.

In the motion, he urged the appellate court to delay delivery of judgment pending determination of his appeal, signalling a multi-pronged legal effort to prevent the conclusion of his trial.

It will be recalled that Mazi Kanu sacked his entire defence team and opted to defend himself in court.

The federal high court has fixed Thursday, November 20, 2025, to deliver judgment on his case after he submitted a non-case plea in his defence.
