Social Media Aflame with “At 17” Trending as Regina and Ned Battle Over Drug Use

The storm surrounding actress Regina Daniels and her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, has worsened after she opened up on social media about sadness, pressure, and the struggle to stay strong amid their very public fallout.

In a series of emotional Instagram posts, the actress admitted she sometimes cries, wipes her tears, and forces herself to move on for the sake of her children and “the demons I have to defeat.”

She described sadness as “spiritually and physically draining,” adding that she now finds herself in the same painful situation she once tried to help others escape.

“I want to be happy,” she wrote. “I hate sadness. I always believed happiness hides in the smallest things — even in food. But sometimes, I look at myself in the mirror, wipe my tears, and continue, because responsibilities won’t wait.”

Her confessions came hours after nollywood-scene-ned-nwoko-drops-video-in-family-feud-with-wife-regina/">Nwoko accused her of drug abuse, saying she must undergo rehabilitation — a claim she fiercely denied, calling it a smear campaign against her and her family.

“When I married you at 17, was I on drugs?” Regina asked publicly. “My name is ruined for now, but I will rewrite my story. That narrative will die. I’m not backing down, you narcissistic manipulative bastard!”

Age Controversy Deepens

The actress’s declaration that she was just 17 when she married the senator in May 2019 has reignited fierce Britbat across social media.

Her 2025 birthday post claimed she turned 24 this October, meaning she was 17 at the time of the marriage.

However, her mother, Rita Daniels, once told the BBC that Regina was “about to turn 20” in October 2020, implying she was 18 when the wedding took place. Regina’s father, Jude Ojeogwu, had publicly objected to the union in 2019, insisting she was 17.

Actress Doris Ogala backed Regina’s claim, saying she had seen the actress’s birth certificate. “Regina was married at 17,” she said. “She’s 24 now. I’ve seen the proof.”

The controversy has split opinions online, with “At 17” trending on X (formerly Twitter) as Nigerians argue over the legality and morality of the marriage.

Defence and Denials Amid Allegations of Drug Use

Nwoko alleged Regina’s siblings supplied her with drugs, claiming she overdosed three times and was rushed to Nizamiye Hospital in Abuja.

Regina fired back, accusing him of manipulation and trying to destroy her reputation.

She wrote: “Yes, everyone! It’s now in history that Regina Daniels did drugs because that was what her husband wanted people to believe. When I married you at 17, was I on drugs?”

Actress Doris Ogala clarified that Regina’s post was not an admission but a rebuttal: “She never confessed to doing drugs. She was defending herself.”

Activist Calls for Ned Nwoko’s Prosecution

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore joined the growing calls for an investigation, alleging the senator could face legal consequences under UK law, where he is a registered lawyer.

Sowore said: “At 17, Regina was a minor under UK law. Any sexual activity following that marriage amounts to statutory rape. The Solicitors Regulation Authority must begin disciplinary proceedings to determine his fitness to practise.”

He also accused Nwoko of using his wealth and political power to silence victims. “Impunity has an expiry date, and that date is now,” Sowore warned.

Amid the chaos, Dr. Oluwatoyin Olubukola Rahman, wife of Lagos APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo, expressed concern over Regina’s mental health.

“She’s about my daughter’s age, yet already a woman,” she wrote on Instagram. “Women, Regina is our child, our sister, our reflection. Regina is you. Regina is me.”
