Lere Olayinka, media aide to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has pushed back at critics over photos showing the minister’s sons at an international summit in Dubai.
Photos from the 2025 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayor’s Forum showed Wike alongside members of the Nigerian delegation, including his sons Jordan and Joaquin.
Some Nigerians called the images inappropriate and questioned why the minister’s children travelled with the official team.
Olayinka saw the backlash and answered on X. “When e reach your turn, carry your enemies travel. Hissssssssssssh,” he wrote, in a post that mixed humour with a sharp edge.
The controversy tapped into the debate about cost of governance, and public disapproval of officials travelling with family members, perhaps at public expense. Supporters say the photos were harmless and framed the trip as part of the delegation’s public duties.
Olayinka’s response set social media alight. Some users laughed at the retort. Others said it showed tone deafness from a ministerial office.
The X post quickly drew replies, memes, and fresh debate about accountability in public life.
