The Lagos State Police Command has mourned the passing of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division, CSP Matilda Ngbaronye, who died on Friday, October 24, 2025, following surgery at Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos.
In a statement on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, conveyed the Command’s grief on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, describing Ngbaronye as “a truly upright and dedicated officer who served with unwavering professionalism and integrity.”
The statement highlighted that until her death, CSP Ngbaronye was widely respected for her “diligence, discipline, and commitment to duty,” adding that her “friendly disposition and humane approach to policing greatly helped to bridge the gap between the Police and the public she dutifully served.”
The news of her death was described as “a rude shock” to officers and men of the Command.
CP Olohunnare Jimoh personally reached out to her husband and elder brother, a priest, to convey the Command’s heartfelt condolences and support during the difficult time.
Burial arrangements for CSP Ngbaronye will be communicated in due course. The statement concluded: “May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
CSP Ngbaronye’s passing has drawn sympathy from colleagues and the public, who remembered her as a committed officer whose approach to community policing left a lasting impact on Festac residents.
