The Kano State Police Command has arrested nine suspected armed robbers said to have terrorised residents in parts of Kano and Kaduna States.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, confirmed the arrest during a press briefing on Monday, describing it as the result of a coordinated operation by the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS).

He said rifles, live ammunition, and other weapons were recovered from the suspects.

According to Bakori, the breakthrough followed a violent robbery at Unguwar Wambai, Dorayi Babba Quarters, where the suspects stormed a residence around 2 a.m., carting away a Toyota Yaris car, ₦3.7 million, and mobile phones.

“During the attack, the suspects assaulted the victim’s wife, inflicting serious injuries,” the police chief said.

Bakori noted that swift action by officers attached to Dorayi Division led to the first arrest, while follow-up intelligence operations by the SIS tracked down the remaining suspects in separate raids across Kano and Kaduna.

The arrested suspects were identified as: Abubakar Aminu (22), Aliyu Aliyu (23), Abubakar Usman (22), Sulaiman Sani (20), Yusuf Yusuf (17), Abdulrahman Aliyu (23), Salisu Hussaini (17), Sulaiman Abdullahi (20), and Abdulmutallib Sa’ad (24).

He revealed that the gang had confessed to multiple operations across Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano, including a recent attack at Unguwar Jakada in Dorayi Quarters.

“Our intelligence suggests the suspects are part of a wider network targeting residents along inter-state routes,” Bakori explained.

Police investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court once the probe is completed.
