The Federal Capital Territory, Abuja (FCT) Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, has directed all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to immediately raid uncompleted buildings and suspected criminal hideouts, and to step up patrols across Abuja.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the order is part of the command’s renewed strategy to deny criminals the use of abandoned or ongoing construction sites as safe havens or operational bases.

Property developers have also been instructed to report to their nearest police divisions to ensure that all security personnel, artisans, and labourers residing or working at construction sites are properly documented and profiled before the end of October 2025.

Raids, Profiling, and Community Cooperation

Adeh explained that DPOs must conduct regular patrols of uncompleted buildings and arrest any unidentified person found at such sites after 6:00 p.m.

She added that scavenging activities—popularly known as “Baban Bola”—remain strictly banned within the FCT. Residents are advised to report any scavengers or suspicious individuals to the nearest police station.

“Security is a collective responsibility,” Adeh quoted CP Adewale as saying.

The police also appealed to estate associations and community leaders to ensure that all security guards and domestic staff are properly profiled, and to avoid harbouring strangers or undocumented persons within residential premises.

Members of the public were reminded to report suspicious activity via the FCT Command’s emergency hotlines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
