Team Brazil roared to their first-ever win in the E1 World Championship on Sunday, stunning the crowd at the E1 Lagos GP — the first electric powerboat race ever held on African waters.
The event turned Lagos into a thrilling stage of speed and sustainability, as electric raceboats tore through the Lagos Lagoon, drawing global attention to Nigeria’s growing place in international sports.

Team Brazil, led by pilot Timmy Hansen, dominated from start to finish. Hansen clocked the fastest time in practice, clinched pole position during Saturday’s qualifying, and delivered a flawless performance in the final.
The Brazilians surged ahead in every group stage, sealing an emphatic victory.
Global Celebrities and Electric Thrills
Team Brazil finished ahead of Virat Kohli’s Team Blue Rising, which came second, while Team Drogba Global Africa — co-owned by football icon Didier Drogba and Gabrielle Lemaire — secured third place.
The win earned Brazil 38 points, pushing their season tally to 89. They remain seventh overall heading into the grand finale in Miami next month.

Team Brady, owned by NFL legend Tom Brady, maintained their lead atop the championship standings despite finishing fourth in Lagos. They now sit at 154 points, just three ahead of Team Rafa, owned by tennis champion Rafael Nadal, with 151. Kohli’s Blue Rising holds third with 145 points.
Lagos Celebrated for Innovation and Global Spotlight
Beyond the race, the weekend placed Lagos at the heart of a global conversation about innovation and clean energy. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described hosting the E1 series as “a milestone for sports and sustainability.”

He said, “Hosting the E1 series is not just about sports, it is about innovation, environmental responsibility, and putting Lagos on the global map for future-focused development.”
The E1 Lagos GP followed earlier rounds in Jeddah and Europe and now sets the stage for a nail-biting championship finale in Miami.
