The Tinubu administration on Thursday received a favorable rating from Nigerian billionaire and international investor, Bayo Ogunlesi.
Mr Ogunlesi was in Aso Villa, the seat of Nigerian government, to meet with President Bola Tinubu. After the talks, he told journalists that he had “an excellent meeting” with the president and that they discussed “fundamental transformations” shaping Nigeria in the last two years.
He listed reforms including the removal of fuel subsidies, new tax structures, a refinery now producing and exporting aviation fuel, and the unification of road ownership.
“The next step is, how do we encourage international investment in Nigeria to drive economic growth?” he asked. “I had a wonderful meeting with Mr President, exchanging ideas on how to put Nigeria front and centre on the map for international investments.”
Ogunlesi is the CEO OF Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) – a consortium of companies with interests in vast areas of business and present in at least four continents.
Energy, Aviation, and Ports in Focus
On specific areas of interest, Ogunlesi said energy is top priority. “We invest in energy. We’re building LNG plants in Texas and Australia. There’s gas in Nigeria. Nigeria is a huge gas province.”
He added that aviation is another focus. “People describe me as the guy who bought Gatwick Airport. I didn’t personally buy it, but the aviation sector is also an area of interest to us.”

Ports also featured in the talks. Ogunlesi admitted that GIP already runs ports in Cotonou and Lomé but none in Nigeria. “I asked for his forgiveness and understanding. He forgave me but said, you have to bring port investment to Nigeria. So that’s another area we’re looking at.”
