Fed. Airport Authority Launch Cashless Payment System at Airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has rolled out a new payment system called Operation Go Cashless. The move signals a major shift in how travellers pay for services at Nigerian airports.

The initiative, developed in collaboration with fintech giant Paystack, takes effect from September 29 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

“Effective September 29, 2025, all payments at FAAN’s revenue points, including airport Access Gates, Car Parks, FAAN VIP and Protocol Lounges will go cashless which means we will be phasing out the collection of cash at these points,” FAAN said in a statement.

The new platform will allow travellers and airport users to enjoy faster, safer, and more transparent services. It comes as Nigeria pushes to modernise its payment infrastructure in line with global trends.

What Passengers Should Expect

FAAN explained that trained brand ambassadors will be stationed across access gates and terminals to assist passengers. They will guide travelers on how to use the new system, demonstrate the process, and answer questions.

In addition, a FAAN Go Cashless Card will be available at Lagos and Abuja airport access gates. Passengers are urged to collect, activate, and fund the card immediately by visiting FAAN’s official portal.

“Travelers and airport users will now enjoy fast and seamless services by using a secure contactless payment option,” FAAN assured.

Wider Rollout Coming

FAAN says the cashless policy will be extended gradually to other airports nationwide. Officials believe the system will improve revenue assurance, curb leakages, and enhance efficiency across operations.

The agency also stressed that the new policy is part of its drive to meet international best practices and improve customer experience.
