The Defence Headquarters has confirmed an explosion at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) factory in Kaduna.

The blast, which happened on the morning of September 20, killed one person and left several others wounded.

Officials said the explosion occurred during the disposal of expired explosives, including ammonia nitrates, primer caps, and propellants.

Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, explained that the injured are now receiving care at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.

“The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, has extended condolences to the family of the deceased and wishes the injured a speedy recovery,” Gusau stated.

He added that there is no danger to the surrounding community. A full investigation has begun to prevent future accidents

DICON, founded in 1964, is Nigeria’s main defence factory.

It is responsible for producing arms, ammunition, and equipment for the Armed Forces. Despite strict safety measures, the factory has now witnessed a tragedy that has raised fresh concerns.
