Fresh twists have emerged over the death of former Ondo State SDP governorship candidate, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, widely called OBA. Police now suspect he was murdered.
His wife and children were reportedly arrested after CCTV footage allegedly showed him being dragged out of his VGC home at 2 am. One daughter is still at large.
The 60-year-old businessman, philanthropist, and politician was earlier mourned in glowing tributes by his aide, Oyeniyi Iwakun. He described OBA as “a man of unwavering integrity, an accomplished businessman, philanthropist, visionary leader, and community builder.”
But suspicions of foul play deepened when images of his bruised body surfaced online. Cuts on his head and neck fuelled anger, with one source alleging he was pushed off a balcony during a domestic quarrel.
Another insider suggested, “The SDP candidate in Ondo State who recently died was killed by his wife. She allegedly pushed him off the balcony.”
OBA, who contested the November 2024 Ondo election against APC’s Lucky Aiyedatiwa and PDP’s Agboola Ajayi, was respected for grassroots philanthropy and his oil and maritime businesses.
The police confirmed that a discreet investigation is underway. Officers at Panti SCID vowed they would “leave no stone unturned” in unravelling the truth behind his mysterious death.
