Governor Alex Otti of Abia State says the panel on the recovery of government properties and funds was never set up to target individuals.
Receiving the panel’s final report in Umuahia, Otti explained its purpose. “The essence of this panel was to provide clarity on events that transpired under the previous administration,” he said.
He stressed that his government would uphold due process. “We will not compromise on standards,” the governor declared, praising the panel led by retired Justice Florence Duruoha-Igwe for what he described as a thorough and professional job.
White Paper Underway
Otti revealed that a committee is already preparing a white paper on the panel’s findings. “The document will be published in due course,” he said.
Abia’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna, confirmed that this was the third report from the panel. The first and second reports had earlier been submitted to the governor.
Uwanna assured residents that the white paper would soon be concluded and presented for action. It is believed its release may lead to possible prosecutions in the state.
Presenting the report, retired Justice Florence Duruoha-Igwe thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve. She said the assignment was challenging but important for transparency and accountability.
