The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says over 4.4 million Nigerians have completed online pre-registration for voter cards. The exercise began on August 18 and hit the milestone by September 14.
INEC’s National Commissioner, Sam Olumekun, described the turnout as encouraging. “We remain committed to seamless and inclusive voter registration ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he said.
Of the 4,445,505 online registrants, 2,141,294 (48.17%) are male, while 2,304,211 (51.83%) are female. Youths aged 18–34 dominate the figures with 2,924,643 (65.79%). Students make up 1,112,344 (25.02%).
INEC also reported that 509,929 Nigerians have completed both online and in-person registration. Females again lead with 280,171 (54.94%), while males account for 229,758 (45.06%).
Young people between 18 and 34 years form 74.15% of the completed registrations. Students represent 38.54%.
In Abuja, online pre-registration ended on September 15. In-person registration continues for two weeks at designated centres.
From September 29 to October 8, INEC will extend registration to all 62 wards in the FCT. Addresses of centres are available on INEC’s official portal.
The Commission has also uploaded a full breakdown of registration data by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability status.
