Aero Contractors has refunded passengers over ₦257 million between January and August 2025.
The refunds cover flight delays, cancellations, and baggage troubles. The figure marks a steep rise from previous years. It represents a 137% increase compared with 2024.
According to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the airline is showing responsibility towards travellers. The regulator said this growth reflects compliance with aviation rules and stronger consumer protection.
In a statement, the NCAA disclosed exact figures. “Total refund paid January – August 2025 = ₦257,195,724.39, compared to ₦108,308,037.40 in 2024 and ₦32,766,652.30 in 2023.”
The airline has also borne the cost of stranded passengers. Between January and July 2025, Aero paid over ₦6 million in hotel accommodation.
Records confirm payments to Cocos Hotel, Grand Cubana Hotel Abuja, NOCY Castle Hotel, Kim Royal Hotel, JC42 Apartment Asaba, and Mayor & Diplomat Hotel Lagos.
While refunds is good practice, should airlines in Nigeria do more to improve efficiency in service rather than spend on refunds and hotels?
