The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it has received 573,523 applications for just 3,927 advertised vacancies.
Spokesman Abdullahi Maiwada explained that the openings cover Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant cadres. He said the recruitment aims to strengthen manpower and improve service delivery.
After documentary checks, 286,697 applicants scaled through to the next stage. They are now expected to take part in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) scheduled for September 14 to 21, 2025.
According to the statement, candidates can take the exam from any location with reliable internet. However, the test is only enabled on laptops or desktops with webcams and full-screen displays.
“A facial verification process will be carried out during login, therefore candidates are advised to maintain a neat appearance,” the Service said.
The CBT software is highly sensitive to noise and movement. Excessive distractions, whispering, or shifting positions may lead to automatic logouts. Candidates who switch between windows risk being flagged for malpractice and disqualified.
Pre-Test and Further Screening
To help applicants, a mandatory pre-test exercise will be held two days before the CBT. Two separate links will be sent — one for the pre-test and another for the main exam.
Candidates applying for the Superintendent Cadre (Level 8) will face an additional CBT in the later phase of recruitment. This condition will not apply to those seeking positions in the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres.
The Service said the process reflects its commitment to fairness, accessibility, and transparency.
