Deadly Bandit Attack in Wake Village, Kaduna, Leaves Another Eight Dead

At least eight people have been confirmed dead, and 18 others injured after armed bandits attacked Wake village in Kachia Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

The assault occurred in the early hours of Sunday, leaving residents shocked and an unconfirmed number abducted.

The attackers, moving in large numbers, launched a coordinated raid in Agunu Ward. They fired indiscriminately, forcing villagers to flee and taking captives whose whereabouts remain unknown.

Southern Kaduna has seen repeated violent attacks in recent years, highlighting growing insecurity in rural communities.

ā€œI can confirm that bandits killed eight of our people in Wake village, injured about 18, and kidnapped several others,ā€ a local source said.

Victims were rushed to medical facilities; some treated in Kachia town, while critically injured patients were transferred to hospitals in Kaduna city.

The attack contradicts official claims of declining banditry in the state. Residents expressed frustration over media silence and limited government response.

ā€œAs usual, no media is interested in our woes, and even our leaders, because of the politics surrounding banditry in the state,ā€ a community source said.

Civil society groups and community leaders have called for immediate government intervention to secure rural areas.

Security experts warn that repeated attacks disrupt agriculture, education, and local economies, increasing hardship for villagers.

The Kaduna State Police Command and the state government had not issued a statement at press time, leaving communities anxious.

Previous attacks in nearby areas like Kajuru and Zangon Kataf suggest a newly coordinated pattern of bandit activities.

How long will Nigerian villages remain vulnerable to such attacks? Can local and state authorities provide a lasting solution?
