Asisat Oshoala to Join Saudi Side Al-Hilal from Bay FC

Super Falcons striker, Asisat Oshoala, is on the brink of joining Saudi Womenโ€™s Premier League giants Al-Hilal. Reports from The Athletic confirm the deal is agreed with U.S. club Bay FC.

Oshoala, 30, landed in Riyadh on Monday and cleared her medicals without issues. The club is expected to make the transfer official any moment.

She only joined Bay FC in February 2024 after leaving Barcelona Femeni, where she enjoyed a trophy-filled spell. Her years in Spain brought multiple league titles and a UEFA Womenโ€™s Champions League crown.

The striker made a quick impression in the United States. She scored on her Bay FC debut in a 1โ€“0 win against Angel City. Her last appearance came in a 3โ€“2 defeat to Washington Spirit just last weekend.

Now, her move to Saudi Arabia signals another chapter in Nigerian footballโ€™s growing presence in the Middle East.

Other Super Falcons stars are already settled in the kingdom. Ashleigh Plumptre and Francisca Ordega play for Al-Ittihad, Rita Chikwelu wears Al-Riyadh colours, while Chinonyerem Macleans features for Al-Shabab.

Oshoalaโ€™s arrival is expected to boost the visibility of womenโ€™s football in Saudi Arabia. The league is growing rapidly and attracting top African talent.

She remains one of the most decorated African footballers of all time. She has been named African Womenโ€™s Footballer of the Year six times, more than any other player.

Fans are already asking: will Oshoalaโ€™s presence help raise the standard of the Saudi league to rival Europe? Nigerians, especially Super Falcons supporters, will be watching her next steps closely.
