Iheanacho Eyes Celtic Move After Sevilla Exit

Spanish club Sevilla have ended their contract with Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho by mutual agreement. The deal had been due to run until June 30, 2026.

Iheanacho joined the Spanish side on a free transfer from Leicester City last summer. But his time at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium never really took off.

He featured in 15 matches across all competitions during the first half of the 2024/25 season and scored three goals. By January, he was sent out on loan to Middlesbrough in the English Championship.

Struggles in England

In England, the 28-year-old forward managed just one goal and two assists from 15 games. That return did not convince Sevilla to recall him.

This season, he did not even make the squad for Sevilla’s first three league matches. That absence sent a strong signal: his time in Spain was over.

The club made it official in a short statement. “Sevilla FC and Kelechi Iheanacho have reached an agreement to terminate the contract of the Nigerian striker. Iheanacho joined the club last summer after ending his contract with Leicester City.”

A Possible Reunion at Celtic

Now, Iheanacho is strongly linked with Scottish champions Celtic. A move there could reunite him with manager Brendan Rodgers, who once coached him at Leicester City.

The forward will be hoping the switch revives his career. He remains a key figure for the Super Eagles, who are preparing for the fifa-world-cup/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the next Africa Cup of Nations.

Could Celtic be the stage where Iheanacho finds his spark again? Fans of the Super Eagles will be watching closely.
