FG Sets New Performance Target for Paramilitary Agencies

The Federal Government is pushing for even better results from the top officials of the four paramilitary agencies under the Ministry of Interior.

After achieving an 85% rating in a recent performance review of federal ministries, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said that only a perfect score will meet their standards next year.

In Niger State, a three-day Performance Contracting retreat just wrapped up, where Dr. Tunji-Ojo made it clear what he expects: “Yes, we hit 85 per cent already, let’s go for 100. We are agents of perfection, that’s who we are in the Ministry of Interior. Let’s go perfecting. Let’s go for 100.”

Support and Encouragement from the President

He inspired the leaders of the paramilitary forces to repay President Bola Tinubu‘s good faith and enthusiasm for changes in the ministry by being advocates of hope.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo reassured everyone of continuous presidential backing of efforts to improve Nigeria.

The minister noted that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has shown progress, especially in safeguarding key assets and infrastructure. Their mining marshal squad is a testament to their dedication.

Regarding the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), he observed: “I can see a lot of reforms already within the correctional service. I mean, now, correctional service is becoming truly correctional and transformational, it’s becoming rehabilitatory, and of course, it’s becoming reformatory.”

Dr. Tunji-Ojo stressed that each agency must work hard to improve their service delivery to achieve a better performance rating.

Although the criteria on which the government scored itself highly in the performance review were not made public, from your perspective, do you see improvements in service delivery from agencies such as the NSCDC or the NCS and others? Share your experience in the comments section.
