The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern states and Abuja has urged citizens to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Northern CAN Chairman, Rev. John Hayab, said voter registration is the first step for Nigerians determined to shape governance.
“Our votes count. If votes were useless, no one would attempt to buy them. Nigerians should understand that the real power lies in the ballot and not in money shared during elections,” he declared.
A Call to Break Apathy
Rev. Hayab warned against political apathy, saying it only strengthens politicians who profit from low turnout. He appealed to clerics of all faiths to sensitise worshippers and communities on the importance of registering.
He described churches, mosques, and faith-based platforms as powerful tools for mass mobilisation. “Selling your vote is selling your conscience and your tomorrow. We must reject inducements and stand firm for a Nigeria built on justice, peace, and progress,” he said.
The cleric also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take registration centres closer to rural and hard-to-reach areas. According to him, many willing voters face unnecessary barriers due to distance.
INEC’s CVR Timeline
The Independent National Electoral Commission disclosed that the online pre-registration portal opened on August 18, 2025, while physical registration started on August 25, 2025. The exercise will run until August 30, 2026, across its 811 state and local government offices.
Over 1.3 million Nigerians have already completed pre-registration online in the first week, with youths aged 18–34 making up the majority. INEC reminded the public that the CVR covers new registration, transfer of polling units, and replacement of lost voter cards.

Northern CAN assured that it will continue working with churches, civil society organisations, and local leaders to ensure no eligible citizen is left out.
🗳 How to Complete Your CVR (Continuous Voter Registration)
Step 1: Start Online
- Go to cvr.inecnigeria.org.
- Click “Start Registration”.
- Fill in your personal details (name, date of birth, address, NIN if available).
- Upload a clear passport-style photo.
- Submit and print (or save) your Application Slip with the QR Code.
Step 2: Book an Appointment
- After submission, choose an INEC office or registration centre near you.
- Select a date and time to complete your biometrics.
Step 3: Physical Verification
- On your appointment day, go to the INEC office with:
- The Application Slip (printed or saved on your phone).
- Any valid ID (NIN, driver’s licence, international passport, school/work ID, etc.).
- INEC staff will capture your fingerprints, facial image, and signature.
Step 4: Get Your PVC
- INEC will announce when your Permanent Voter Card (PVC) is ready.
- Return to the centre to collect it in person.
