The iconic Awolowo House next to the popular Computer Village at Ikeja, Lagos, has been pulled down to give way to a new vision — the Awolowo Technology Mall.
Once a towering landmark of commerce since 1978, the building is being transformed into a modern hub that will immortalise the legacy of Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
The project is being managed by Wemabod, a subsidiary of Odu’a Investment Company Limited, which is owned by the six South-West states.
According to developers, the new Awolowo Technology Mall will more than double the commercial space of the former structure — from 4,800 sqm to over 9,000 sqm.
Ben Gbade Ojo, Managing Director of El-Salem Nigeria Limited, whose firm is partnering Wemabod, described the mall as a digital marketplace without borders.
“The Awolowo Technology Mall, now famously called A.T Mall, is a place where top-notch information technology companies will set up shops and offices to exhibit and market the latest systems,” he said.
“You will likely find at the A.T Mall any ICT or electronic product available in the world. Whatever technology products or services you need, come to Ikeja and you will get them.”
Lagos Rising as a Global Tech Power
The timing of this transformation is not accidental. A recent report by data analytics firm Statisense ranked Lagos as the world’s fastest-growing emerging technology ecosystem in 2025.
Istanbul came second, followed by Pune, while Johannesburg, Mumbai and Riyadh also featured in the top ten.
Analysts say the new A.T Mall will not only attract world-class ICT firms but also strengthen Lagos’ growing global reputation as Africa’s leading technology hub.
The mall is also designed to be a centre for ICT training, innovation, and problem-solving, bringing together experts who can provide tailored solutions to Nigeria’s technology challenges.
