The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has thrown a heavy punch at Rotimi Amaechi’s 2027 presidential ambition.
In a fiery interview on Channels Television, Wike declared: “The last person they will give a ticket to is Amaechi. That is dead on arrival.”
He said Amaechi had lost every major political battle since 2014, despite holding powerful positions.
Wike didn’t hold back. He listed Amaechi’s defeats like a scorecard.
“In 2014 and 2015, when he was governor, we defeated him. In 2019, when he was Minister and Director General of Buhari’s campaign, we also defeated him. Even in 2023, when he supported another candidate, he still lost.”
He questioned how Amaechi could now claim the strength to win a presidential race.
Wike insisted that even if Amaechi switched parties, his record showed he lacked the political muscle to succeed.
Babachir Lawal Wanted to Be Vice President — Wike Claims
Wike also took a swipe at Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation under the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
He alleged that Lawal was bitter because President Tinubu didn’t pick him as running mate.
“What was his anger? His anger was that he thought Mr President would have chosen him as the vice presidential candidate. Having not done that, heaven would have to let loose.”
Wike said Lawal visited him in Port Harcourt with a former Speaker of the House shortly after Tinubu announced his choice.
He described Lawal’s disappointment as “very obvious.”
Tambuwal Should Face EFCC, Not Play Politics — Wike Warns
Wike also advised former Sokoto Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, to stop politicizing his invitation by the EFCC.
He urged Tambuwal to clear his name and face the anti-graft agency squarely.
The interview has stirred reactions across political circles. Wike’s blunt words have once again placed him at the centre of Nigeria’s political drama.
