Afrobeats superstar Davido has set a new standard for wedding gifts.
At his white wedding in Miami, USA, on Sunday, he surprised his bride, Chioma Rowland, with a factory-iced Richard Mille wristwatch worth $300,000.
The luxury timepiece is Chioma’s second Richard Mille from Davido. In 2023, he gifted her one along with Birkin bags for her birthday.
This Miami celebration comes after their lavish traditional wedding in Lagos in June 2024 and a court wedding in March 2023.
Fans have been buzzing online as wedding videos flood Instagram and TikTok, showing the couple dancing with friends, family, and celebrity guests.
Why Chioma Said ‘Yes’
In an interview with NoireTV, Chioma revealed why she married Davido. “I would say David actually cares about my dreams, right? I have faced many challenges over time, but he would always ask me, Chi, apart from all of this, what do you want to do?”
She added, “We have plans, and we have stuff coming out in the next few months, so like next year. He really cares about my personal life, my personal dreams, and things I want to do outside being his wife and a mother to his kids.”
The couple’s love story has been public since Davido’s 2019 proposal. They faced a rough patch in 2021 following relationship rumours. In October 2022, tragedy struck when they lost their first child, Ifeanyi. They later married in March 2023 and welcomed twins in the US in October the same year.
A Wedding Steeped in Emotion and Luxury
Davido honoured Ifeanyi’s memory during the wedding by wearing custom cufflinks engraved with his late son’s image. On Instagram, he shared a photo of the sentimental accessory.
The Miami wedding pulled in Nigeria’s elite from politics, business, and entertainment. Music stars Adekunle Gold, Teni, and Zlatan Ibile joined the celebration after attending the pre-wedding dinner.
Davido revealed the wedding cost over $3.7 million. “We spent $3.7m in cash. You should know what we are doing. It’s crazy,” he said.
