EFCC Disclaims Role in Alleged Raid on Felix Duke’s Lagos Hotel

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is pushing back against claims made by musician and hotel owner Felix Duke.

He accused EFCC operatives of illegally raiding his hotel in Abule Egba, Lagos, wrecking stuff, and pinching money.

Duke, who also heads the Creative Industry Group, shared his story with the media. He said on August 1, eight armed men showed up at his Duke and Duchess Hotel in an unmarked bus.

They said they were from the EFCC but didn’t show any warrant. Duke’s wife, an American, was almost taken away, but she stood her ground, insisting on a court order.

What Exactly Happened?

Duke described how these men blocked the hotel’s entrance, scared away customers, and busted into rooms, all in search of him. Later, he found out that €5,000 was missing from his room.

He believes this drama is about a land fight with a retired soldier who accused him of fraud. Duke said he had also reported this soldier before.

To set things straight, Duke took legal action against the EFCC and the accuser. He wants an apology and ₦50 million for the harm done to his rights.

When asked about this, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale dismissed the claims. “There is nothing like that,” he said. According to the EFCC’s Lagos Directorate, no such raid happened at Duke’s hotel.

The only operation there recently was on a Wednesday at Chevron on Lagos Island, where some arrests were made.

Oyewale advised Duke to “redirect his energy and insinuations to other quarters, not EFCC.”

What do you think about these kinds of disputes? Are people too quick to blame the authorities without proper proof?
