Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been nominated for the 2025 Ballon d’Or Yachine Trophy, making history as the first Nigerian female goalkeeper to earn the honour.

The 24-year-old was named among five global nominees for the award, which celebrates the best goalkeeper in women’s football.

She currently holds the CAF Best Female Goalkeeper of 2024.

The list was released on Thursday by France Football, organisers of the Ballon d’Or.

Nnadozie’s nomination follows a season of brilliance for both club and country. She recently signed for Brighton & Hove Albion Women after a standout campaign with Paris FC in France.

“She Saved Us Again and Again”

At Paris FC, Nnadozie helped the team win the Coupe de France for the first time in 20 years. She made two crucial saves in a tense penalty shootout against PSG, sealing the historic win.

She also guided the club to UEFA Women’s Champions League qualification, pulling off big saves in knockout matches.

On the international stage, Nnadozie was a wall in goal as Nigeria won the morocco-3-2/">2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. She kept four clean sheets and was named Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.

“She saved us again and again,” said Super Falcons coach Justine Madugu, who was also nominated for Women’s Coach of the Year.

Nnadozie was included in the Team of the Tournament and won the Golden Glove. She also won the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year back-to-back in 2023 and 2024.

The other nominees for the Yachine Trophy are Ann-Katrin Berger (Germany), Cata Coll (Spain), Hannah Hampton (England), and Daphne van Domselaar (Netherlands).

The winner will be announced at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris on September 22, 2025.
