Brazil secured their ninth Copa América Femenina title after beating Colombia 5–4 in a dramatic penalty shootout following a thrilling 4–4 draw in Quito, Ecuador.
The final, played at Estadio Rodrigo Paz Delgado, was one of the most exciting in tournament history. Colombia led three times during regulation, with goals from Linda Caicedo, a Brazil own-goal by Tarciane, and Mayra Ramírez.
Brazil fought back each time: Angelina converted a penalty before halftime, Amanda Gutierres equalized in the 80th minute, and Marta scored a stoppage-time equalizer to force extra time.
She struck again early in extra time, only for Colombia’s Leicy Santos to level it with a stunning free kick in the 115th minute. The match went to penalties, where Brazil’s goalkeeper Lorena made two decisive saves to seal victory.
Marta’s Farewell and Brazil’s Continued Dominance
Legendary forward Marta, 39, was the hero—coming off the bench to score twice, including a 96th‑minute equalizer that pushed the game into extra time. Her contributions cemented her legacy in her final Copa América appearance. She now has 122 goals in 206 games for Brazil.
Coach Amanda Gutierres praised the team’s unbreakable spirit, highlighting Brazil’s winning mentality and commitment to never giving up. “We never stopped believing. This team has heart,” she said. She also paid tribute to Colombia’s performance as deserving opponents.
Brazil’s penalty scorers included Tarciane, Gutierres, Mariza, Jhonson, and Luany. Marta and Angelina missed their spot kicks, but Lorena’s saves against Santos and Carabalí made the difference.

With this win, Brazil further solidifies its dominance in South American women’s football—nine titles from ten editions contested. Colombia, despite another runner-up finish, has yet to get past Brazil in a final, having lost five continental finals to them.
Both teams have qualified for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, and Brazil will host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027, adding more weight to their victory.
