FG Launch ₦10 Million Loan Scheme for Staff of Tertiary Institutions

The Federal Government has rolled out a new loan initiative — the Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund (TISSF) — offering up to ₦10 million to eligible staff in Nigeria’s public tertiary institutions.

The scheme was unveiled in Abuja during a high-level stakeholder session hosted by the Federal Ministry of Education.

According to Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry, the loan is part of ongoing reforms to improve the quality of life and boost morale in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

The goal, she said, is to strengthen professional development and ensure financial stability for both academic and non-academic workers.

“Each academic and non-academic staff member is eligible to receive up to ₦10 million, capped at 33.3% of their gross annual salary,” the statement said.

This is the first time the government is rolling out such a direct financial support system targeted at staff welfare in higher institutions.

Tinubu: “Education is a Weapon of Transformation”

Over the weekend, President Bola Tinubu said his government has made education a top budgetary priority.

He restated that the 2025 budget carries a historic ₦3.52 trillion allocation for the education sector — a 61.47% jump from the previous year.

Tinubu said, “An educated society is the bedrock of economic growth, social stability, and technological advancement.”

He stressed that education drives innovation, reduces crime, and helps citizens make informed choices.

“Through targeted policies and strategic investments in education, we’ve initiated transformative changes aimed at inclusivity, skill acquisition, data-driven planning, and quality engagement,” he added.

Tinubu’s message was delivered by Prof. Madu Offor, Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, at the 54th Convocation Ceremony of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

The president reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving learning infrastructure, expanding student loan access, and lifting the quality of education at all levels.

UNN Urges Graduates to Uphold Nation-Building

Speaking at the same convocation, the Chancellor of UNN and Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, reminded graduates of the university’s legacy.

“You must be ambassadors of UNN, champions of unity in diversity, and restore the dignity of man,” he said.

President Tinubu, through his representative, also charged the graduates to become engines of innovation and courage.

“The entrepreneurial training you have received here equips you to think innovatively and contribute meaningfully to our nation’s transformation,” he stated.

“Your education is a tool for change; use it to drive progress under our Renewed Hope Agenda.”
