The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 25 undergraduate students of Bayero University Kano (BUK) for alleged involvement in internet fraud.

The suspects were picked up on Monday near the university’s New Site in Kano, following weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering.

EFCC operatives stormed the area in a sting operation after tracking suspicious online activities linked to identity theft and financial scams.

“All suspects apprehended are confirmed to be undergraduate students of Bayero University Kano (BUK),” the agency said in a statement posted on its official X handle.

Devices Recovered, Investigations Ongoing

Items recovered during the operation include mobile phones, laptops, internet routers, and one Honda Accord car believed to have been used in the alleged cybercrime.

The suspects were identified as: Ismaíl Nura, Suuleyman Ayeh, Usman Abdulrazaq, Emmanuel Chigozie, Akabe Seth, Daniel Imoter, Abdulganiyu Jimoh, Jafar Abubakar, Usman Nuraddeen, Mohammad Adnan, Abubakar Abusufyan, Abdulmalik Ibrahim, Abubakar Sadiq, Daniel Masamu, Abdulrasheed Abdulsamad, Issac Dosunu, Nuraddeen Ogunbiyi, Onyeyemi Kaleem, Miracle Joseph, Danjuma Musa, Ibrahim Mubaraq, Yusuf Salihu, Lawal Ibrahim Edebo, Abdulmajeed Suleiman, and Dauda Abdulhamid.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said the arrests followed “actionable intelligence linking the students to suspected cybercrime activities.”

He added that the suspects will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

The commission warned students and young Nigerians to steer clear of fraudulent online schemes, saying it remains committed to tackling cybercrime across campuses nationwide.
