Dame Judith Amaechi, wife of former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, has broken her silence.
She dismissed allegations made by the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, that she received ₦4 billion monthly from the NDDC.
Wike had made the explosive accusation during a recent televised interview.
He alleged that Dame Amaechi collected the money through her NGO, Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI), but failed to deliver meaningful results.
In response, Dame Amaechi described the allegations as “baseless, false, and aimed at tarnishing her image for political gain.”
Through a statement by her media aide, Dike Bekwele, she said Wike’s claims were “a figment of his imagination.”
“She did not and has never received ₦4 billion monthly from the NDDC,” the statement said. “There is absolutely no iota of truth in the allegation.”*
Claims Politically Driven, Not Rooted in Fact
ESI, her NGO, was established in 2011. The statement noted that it has carried out projects in partnership with various development agencies, including the NDDC.
But those projects, according to her, were “executed transparently and under verifiable MoUs.”
Mrs Amaechi stated that ESI had helped women and youth through “vocational training and entrepreneurial development in the Niger Delta.”
She accused Wike of chasing clout and dragging her name through the mud, simply because of political rivalry and vendettas.
No Audit Report, No Indictment
On Wike’s claim that she was indicted in the long-awaited NDDC forensic audit, Dame Amaechi did not hold back.
“It is preposterous for Wike to allege any indictment in a report that has not been published,” she said. “Let him present the portion of the report that implicates me or ESI.”
She also called on President Bola Tinubu to release the report if it exists. Until then, she said, no one has the right to make sweeping allegations.
“Wike should retract his statement, tender a public apology, and resign as Minister,” her statement added.
Dame Amaechi also warned that Wike’s antics could damage Nigeria’s international image and scare off foreign investors.
“We advise Mr. Wike to refrain from making false and inflammatory statements that bring Nigeria’s image to disrepute,” she concluded.
