Gov Mbah Swears in 6 New Commissioners, Reshuffles Others

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has reshuffled his cabinet, swearing in six new commissioners and a new Head of Service.

He also reassigned three serving commissioners to new ministries.

The ceremony held on Tuesday at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Enugu.

Chizoba Ogbodo from the Ministry of Justice administered the Oath of Office.

“You must hit the ground running” — Mbah warns appointees

Dr Godwin Anigbo was sworn in as the new Head of Service.

The six new commissioners include:

  • Engr. Benjamin Osita Okoh – Works and Infrastructure
  • Prof. Benedett Ekwutosi Okoli – Human Development and Poverty Eradication
  • Enyinna Franklin Ogbonna – Energy and Mineral Resources
  • Dr. Samuel Ogbu-Nwobodo – Trade, Investment, and Industry
  • Prof. George Ugwu – Health
  • Engr. Ben Collins Ndu Jr. – Water Resources

Mbah also made some strategic reassignments.

Dr Felix Nnamani moved from Water Resources to Labour and Employment.

Dr Malachy Agbo now heads the Ministry of Information after leaving Human Development.

Engr. Gerald Otiji, formerly of Works, is now Commissioner for Housing.

Governor Mbah made it clear that the appointments come with immediate responsibilities.

“There will be no honeymoon period for you,” he said.

“Every day feels as though we are presenting a scorecard,” he told the appointees.

“We do not encourage working in silos”

The governor explained that teamwork is the soul of his administration.

“You should not see your colleagues as rivals. They should actually complement your efforts,” Mbah said.

“Our modest accomplishment in the state so far is not done by a single champion. We like to recognise our successes as team efforts.”

He further charged the new appointees to work with measurable targets and show results.

“We have key performance indicators. We will measure you based on outcomes,” he warned.

Speaking on behalf of the newly sworn-in officials, Dr. Ogbu-Nwobodo pledged their loyalty.

“We will be loyal and dedicated in the discharge of our duties,” he said.

“We will strive to contribute to the nationally acknowledged success that your government has become.”

The event was attended by top government officials, including Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai, SSG Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, and Chief of Staff Victor Udeh.

Spouses of the new appointees also witnessed the ceremony.
