Muhammed Babangida, son of former military president Ibrahim Babangida, has accepted his appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA).
Over the weekend, social media buzzed with a forged letter allegedly from Muhammed Babangida. It claimed he rejected President Tinubu’s appointment due to “personal and professional considerations.”
But on Monday, Babangida released an official statement that cleared the air.
“Muhammed gratefully accepts the appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture, as announced by the federal government,” the statement read.
He also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for trusting him with such a vital role. “We extend sincere appreciation to President Tinubu for the trust and confidence bestowed upon him.”
The statement, verified by Kazeem Afegbua, a long-time spokesperson of former President Babangida, dismissed the earlier reports as “false and malicious.”
According to him, the intention behind the fake letter was to confuse Nigerians and discredit the current administration.
“Those spreading these falsehoods will be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice,” it added.
The statement also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify all news from credible sources before sharing online.
Babangida Reaffirms Commitment to Agriculture
Muhammed Babangida assured Nigerians of his readiness to serve and help reposition the Bank of Agriculture for national progress.
The BOA is one of Nigeria’s key institutions for agricultural financing. It supports farmers, agribusinesses, and rural development, all of which are critical to national food security and economic growth.
