The Nigerian Army has scored some important wins recently. They’ve taken out a well-known terrorist leader called Amirul Fiya or Abu Nazir, along with several of his followers.

Lt.-Col. Apollonia Anele, who handles public relations for the Army, said they also caught a few suspects, freed hostages, and seized a stash of guns and ammunition while on different missions from Thursday to Saturday.

In Borno, soldiers stationed at the Rann Kala base in Balge Local Government Area fought off an assault by ISWAP/JAS terrorists on Thursday.

Major Breakthroughs

The soldiers retrieved the bodies of three terrorists, including the leader, Fiya. They also found an AK-47, two rocket-propelled grenades, and some unexploded bombs.

Teaming up with the Civilian Joint Task Force and Hybrid Force on August 9, they discovered another terrorist’s body. “They also recovered a QJC 88-barrel gun, an AA gun tripod, 20 rounds of 12.7 x 108mm ammunition, a backpack and a bicycle,” shared Anele.

In Zamfara, troops from the 1 Brigade Combat Team 2 jumped into action after hearing about terrorist activity on the Gusau–Kaura Namoda road in Unguwar Sariki Musulmi, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area on Friday.

This quick reaction scared off the terrorists, allowing troops to rescue two kidnapped victims and reunite them with their families.

Handling Local Issues

On Saturday in Ebonyi, soldiers from the 24 Special Engineer Regiment stepped in to manage a crisis between the Iyimagwu and Ekpomaka communities in Ikwo Local Government Area.

“Troops came under fire from an abandoned building and responded decisively, neutralising one armed criminal,” noted Anele, who mentioned they found a G3 rifle, 50 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, 16 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and four hand grenades.

Anele reassured that the Nigerian Army is dedicated to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and protecting its people from harm.

“We are committed to sustaining aggressive operations, working in synergy with other security agencies, to ensure lasting peace and security across the country,” she added.
