Permanent residents in Canada will soon get the chance to reunite with their parents and grandparents under a new immigration round.

(IRCC) has announced that invitations will begin rolling out from July 28, 2025. This will last several weeks.
The focus is on individuals who submitted an interest-to-sponsor form in 2020. IRCC said it will issue invitations to 17,860 potential sponsors from that pool.
“Our goal is to accept up to 10,000 complete applications under the federal Parents and Grandparents Program,” IRCC stated.
This intake round will not open a fresh submission window. Only applicants from the 2020 list are eligible this time.
Those selected can file their applications through either the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal.
Super Visa Still Available for Others
IRCC is urging those who submitted the 2020 interest form but haven’t received an invitation to check their email inboxes—including junk and spam folders.
“IRCC will only send invitations to apply to potential sponsors from the 2020 pool of submissions and won’t be opening a new interest-to-sponsor form,” it clarified.
For those who don’t receive an invitation, there’s still the super visa route.
This multi-entry visa lasts up to 10 years and allows parents and grandparents to stay in Canada for as long as five years per visit. It can also be extended by two years while in Canada.
Family Reunification Remains a Priority
Although Canada is working to slow the growth of temporary and permanent residents overall, family reunification is still a major focus.
It currently makes up 22% of all permanent resident admissions, according to IRCC data.
