Former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as “a true patriot” whose entire life was devoted to Nigeria.
In a statement released on Sunday, Osinbajo said Buhari’s legacy would stand the test of time.
“Dolapo and I received, with profound sadness, the news of the passing of His Excellency, former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR,” Osinbajo wrote.
He confirmed speaking with Buhari’s wife, Aisha, and their son, Yusuf, to share condolences and grief over the loss.
“In the moments that followed, we spoke with Her Excellency Aisha Buhari and their son Yusuf Buhari to express our heartfelt condolences and to share in the deep grief of their beloved family—one with whom we had the honour of serving our nation for eight memorable years.”
A Legacy of Service and Integrity
Osinbajo described Buhari as a man of rare virtues—honest, disciplined, and deeply committed to public good.
“Nigeria has lost a true patriot—a man whose life was marked by unyielding devotion to the nation he loved,” he wrote.
“President Buhari’s legacy will endure as a testament to the nobility of public service, defined by honesty, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to the public good.”
Osinbajo served as Buhari’s deputy from 2015 to 2023, during an administration that witnessed major security and economic challenges, as well as landmark infrastructure projects.
‘May His Memory Always Be Blessed’
The former Vice President offered prayers for the family and the nation.
“We pray that the Almighty God will grant comfort and strength to his family, and to all who mourn his passing. May his memory always be blessed,” Osinbajo said.
The late Buhari, a former military Head of State (1983–1985), returned to power as a democratically elected President in 2015. His time in office was marked by an anti-corruption campaign, major rail and road projects, and contentious security reforms.
