Benue State to Launch Startup Portal to Boost Digital Innovation

Benue State Government, under the leadership of Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormen Alia, has unveiled the Benue Startup Ecosystem Portal, a strategic initiative aimed at advancing digital innovation and entrepreneurship across the state.

The newly launched portal is envisioned as a transformative step toward closing the digital divide between Benue and more technologically advanced regions, both within Nigeria and globally. According to state officials, the initiative is designed to foster digital inclusion, promote youth empowerment, and position Benue as a rising hub within Nigeria’s burgeoning tech sector.

The Benue Startup Ecosystem Portal is a collaborative effort between the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC) PLC and key public-private stakeholders. It is tailored to provide access to vital resources for tech startups, developers, digital entrepreneurs, and innovators—ranging from mentorship programs to funding opportunities and business development support.

Speaking at the launch, Terwase Hembaor‑Gbande, the Managing Director/CEO of BDIC, highlighted the state’s vision for digital progress:

The Benue Startup Ecosystem Portal reflects the visionary leadership of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, who is committed to using technology and entrepreneurship to create jobs, empower youth, and position Benue for global relevance.”

The portal is fully sponsored by the state and will be accessible to users both within and outside Benue, further expanding its potential impact on the national and continental tech landscape.

Experts say the move aligns with broader national efforts to drive inclusive digital transformation. According to the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), state-level initiatives like this are crucial for achieving Nigeria’s Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (2020–2030), which prioritises innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital job creation.

With this launch, Benue joins a growing list of Nigerian states leveraging digital tools and startup ecosystems to attract investment, foster innovation, and diversify local economies.
