Bode George, former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, asserts that the party will not select a Northerner for president in 2027.
He expressed this on Thursday during a meeting with the Lagos PDP members to discuss the party’s resurgence. He stated that choosing a Northerner would constitute a disrespect to the party’s founders.
George is troubled by the departure of members from PDP. He attributes the switch of PDP governors to APC to President Bola Tinubu’s persuasion.
He perceives those who leave to form new coalitions as akin to rolling stones—accomplishing nothing, and they will likely return once their endeavors fail.
“We will not have a candidate from the North in 2027,” George argues.
Defections and Political Maneuvering
George addresses the zoning policy and critiques how it undermines the party’s founders. He reminisces about the late Alex Ekwueme, who lost the PDP presidential nomination yet remained devoted to the party, describing him as a true gentleman of integrity.
He condemns those departing to confront Tinubu, cautioning that they are likely to fail and rejoin PDP.
“Bola Tinubu and his associates are coercing our governors into joining APC,” he states, calling on Nigerians to remain vigilant. To him, individuals switching parties are like leaving their father’s house due to a leaking roof only to stay with tenants. “Would you truly do that?” he asked.
