Total Movement Ban in Lagos on July 12 for LG Elections

The Lagos State Police Command has ordered a complete restriction of vehicular movement across the state from 3am to 3pm on Saturday, July 12, 2025, due to the upcoming Local Government Elections.

This 12-hour restriction affects all roads and waterways under Lagos jurisdiction.

Only emergency workers, accredited LASIEC officials, and election observers will be exempt.

Strict Election-Day Guidelines Issued

The Command has also announced a ban on the movement of vehicles belonging to quasi-security outfits and state security agencies not officially listed in LASIEC’s approved election security framework.

“No state-owned security agency is authorized to participate in the election security operations, in line with the Electoral Act,” the statement read.

In addition, armed escorts, the use of sirens, and covered number plates are banned throughout the state during the election hours.

Accredited media personnel and observers must wear LASIEC-issued identification tags at all times. Security officers on duty are also expected to display their official ID throughout the election process.

Miscreants, Stay Away—Police Warn

The Lagos Police Command issued a strong warning to those planning to cause trouble.

“The Command hereby sternly warns all miscreants, hoodlums, and thugs to stay away from polling units, collation centres, and other designated election venues,” the statement said.

The police assured residents that all security measures have been put in place to guarantee a peaceful election across the state.

Residents were also reminded to report any suspicious movement or activity by contacting the Command through its emergency lines: 08063299264 or 08065154338.

In other jurisdictions, people freely move around during elections, making them carnival-like. Do movement restrictions on election days ensure peaceful conduct or cause more hardship for residents? Drop your thoughts here→
