Zulum Denies Defection Rumours, Reaffirms Loyalty to APC

Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has denied reports claiming he plans to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), along with five other governors.

Zulum described the rumour as a “baseless fabrication by unscrupulous elements seeking relevance.”

The speculation, which began circulating on social media platforms, alleged that Zulum was part of a group of APC governors planning to join the ADC in anticipation of the 2027 general elections.

“Our Hands Are Full with Rebuilding Borno”

In a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, Zulum urged the public to disregard the reports.

“We have become aware of a fictitious and mischievous social media report circulating in certain quarters,” the statement read.

“This is entirely false and exists only in the imagination of its sponsors. They are detractors who have made no meaningful contribution to the progress of Borno State or Nigeria.”

Governor Zulum reiterated that his priority remains the welfare of the people of Borno and the development of the state.

“My loyalty to the APC remains firm and my dedication is solely to the welfare and progress of Borno State,” he said. “We have no time for cheap politics; our hands are full with the noble task of rebuilding and developing our dear state.”

Call for Media Discipline and Public Vigilance

Zulum called on media platforms and the public to be wary of politically motivated misinformation, especially as the political season gathers momentum.

“I call on media outlets and the public to verify information from credible official sources,” he stated. “Ignore the desperate fabrications of those seeking relevance through disinformation.”

The Borno governor is widely respected for his developmental strides in a region torn by years of insurgency.

Some have suggested Zulum is under consideration to be picked as President Tinubu’s running mate in 2027 over the current VP Shettima. Should Zulum take up the offer if given, or should he remain focused on Borno’s recovery? Let us know in the comments.
