Nigerian troops have uncovered dozens of hidden explosives on a key bridge linking Marte and Dikwa in Borno State.

The operation was carried out by forces under Operation Hadin Kai, working in close collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). The team acted on intelligence and moved swiftly to secure the scene.

The cache of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) was discovered during a focused clearance mission led by Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units from both Marte and Dikwa Forward Operating Bases.

“A total of 56 fully prepared IEDs have been safely recovered from the location,” the Army announced.

Controlled detonation procedures are ongoing to neutralise additional explosives still lodged around the bridge area.

The bridge, a strategic link in the North East, could have been the site of a deadly ambush targeting both military convoys and civilian transport.

“This successful operation has prevented a potentially catastrophic attack and reaffirms the vigilance, expertise, and commitment of Nigerian troops,” the Army said.

This discovery comes amid continued efforts to secure Borno’s highways and restore stability in communities impacted by the insurgency.
