NCAA Rates Max Air Least Responsive to Passenger Complaints

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has ranked Max Air as the most unresponsive domestic airline to passenger complaints in the country.

The ranking was based on data from the NCAA’s Consumer Protection Department (CPD), which monitors customer experiences with airlines operating in Nigeria.

Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA, disclosed this on Thursday via X.

“According to NCAA data, Max Air has been the most unresponsive domestic airline per passenger complaints and determinations by the NCAA CPD,” he wrote.

He added that “in some cases, there have been allegations of threats to travel agencies for daring to report to the CAA. This will be put to a stop immediately.”

Air Côte d’Ivoire Accused of Manipulating Flight Schedules

Achimugu also raised concerns about the conduct of Air Côte d’Ivoire, accusing the airline of cancelling scheduled flights when passenger numbers are low.

He said the Ivorian national carrier merges bookings from multiple days to create full flights.

According to him, this practice undermines consumer confidence and violates international aviation norms.

The NCAA is currently reviewing the airline’s operations.

Achimugu stated that while the Authority supports all airlines operating in Nigerian airspace, adherence to the rules is non-negotiable.

“We understand that disruptions happen. But adherence to civil aviation regulations is not a choice of convenience,” he said.

NCAA Vows Swift Action

The NCAA said it will act swiftly in both cases to ensure compliance and protect Nigerian travellers.

It stressed that threatening whistleblowers, especially travel agencies working in public interest, would not be tolerated.

“Both cases will be handled expeditiously by the NCAA,” Achimugu said.

He assured Nigerians that the Authority remains committed to strengthening consumer protections and promoting ethical conduct within the aviation sector.
