The Nigerian state oil giant, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), says a coordinated plot is underway to derail its transformation efforts and tarnish its leadership.
In a statement on Thursday, NNPC alleged that some individuals within and outside the company are circulating false reports to undermine ongoing reforms.
It said the campaign was orchestrated by a group of both known and unidentified persons determined to stop transparency and progress.
“These are calculated efforts by those who feel threatened by reform, transparency, accountability and change,” the statement read.
The company warned that the attacks could intensify in the coming weeks as it continues its reform drive.
It also said the fabrications were designed to demoralize staff, distract leadership, and mislead the public about its direction.
Reforms Target Legacy Corruption, Oil Swaps, and Contracts
Since becoming a limited liability company under the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) in 2021, NNPC has pursued deep internal reforms.
The changes have gained speed between 2023 and 2024, with strong focus on debt recovery, operational transparency, and commercial viability.
Industry analysts believe some of the most affected areas include oil swaps, security contracts, and product marketing—sectors long plagued by corruption.
The management acknowledged that the reforms were ruffling feathers among powerful interests.
Still, it insisted that the company will not bow to pressure.
“No amount of sabotage will stop it,” the statement declared.
