Nigeria Opens First Methanol and Fertiliser Factory in Ondo

The Federal Government has hailed the commissioning of Nigeria’s first-ever methanol and ammonium bicarbonate factory in Ondo State as a major industrial milestone with strong potential for economic growth.

Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, said the facility, located at the Ondo-Linyi Industrial Hub, Omotosho, would significantly boost local chemical and fertiliser production.

“The production of 100,000 metric tonnes of methanol and 160,000 metric tonnes of ammonium bicarbonate yearly is historic in Nigeria,” he said during a site inspection.

Ekpo noted that the project maximises Nigeria’s natural gas resources to support economic development. He added that President Bola Tinubu would be pleased with the industrial advancement.

Top officials from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and key gas industry stakeholders joined the minister on the tour.

Investor and Government Support

Yang Jijiang, Chairman of the Chinese investors behind Supertech Chemical Industry, said: “As a Chinese investor in Nigeria, we at Supertech are proud to contribute to Ondo State’s industrialisation drive and the broader economic development of Nigeria.”

Alexander Ajipe, Principal Consultant to the Ondo-Linyi Industrial Hub, described the minister’s visit as a “moral booster” for investors, while Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa commended the Ondo State Development and Investment Promotion Agency (ONDIPA) for removing bureaucratic obstacles that often discourage industrial investments.

The facility is a historic step in Nigeria’s chemical and fertiliser production, signalling a stronger industrial base for future growth and job creation.
