INEC Sets June 20, 2026 for Ekiti Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the Ekiti State Governorship Election will hold on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

This announcement complies with Section 28 (1) and (2) of the Electoral Act 2022, which requires elections to be scheduled at least 360 days before the expiration of the current tenure.

The exercise will take place across all 16 Local Government Areas in Ekiti State.

Voting is expected to start at exactly 8:30 a.m. in the 2,445 polling units spread across the state.

BVAS and PVC Requirements for All Voters

INEC confirmed that it will deploy the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for voter identification and verification on election day.

According to the official notice:

_“Only persons whose names appear on the Register of Voters and have valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) shall be allowed to vote.”

_“Voters shall only vote at polling units where they are registered.”

“No PVC, no voting.”

BVAS will be used to verify both fingerprints and facial identity of voters to ensure accuracy and prevent fraud.

INEC added that the election is part of its efforts to “consolidate our democracy” and called on eligible citizens to prepare accordingly.

Voter Readiness and Public Awareness

INEC reminded residents of Ekiti State that the election will take place on the same day across the state.

All eligible voters are urged to confirm their registration status, locate their correct polling units, and come along with their valid PVCs.

The electoral body is also expected to publish a timetable for party primaries, campaigns, and other pre-election activities in the coming months.

Security agencies, election observers, and media organisations are expected to play key roles in ensuring transparency during the poll.

The commission said it is committed to a free, fair, and credible process.
