Former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George, has declared that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Monday will go ahead. He said internal disagreements would not stop the party from finding a way forward.
Speaking during an interview, George described the crisis within the People’s Democratic Party as self-inflicted, but not beyond resolution.
George said party members had allowed personal ambition to override collective interest.
“There is no political organisation or any organisation, whether political or otherwise, that will not have crisis. And this is self-inflicted crisis. That’s what I’m saying. The people put their interest before the corporate interest of the party.”
He confirmed the NEC meeting will hold despite the disagreement within the party.
“We will meet on Monday. Call it whatever name you want to call it. And we will resolve our crisis. We will resolve it by Monday.”
George urged party members to act responsibly and support efforts to restore peace. He said disagreements are normal but must be addressed maturely and internally.
“Your ability to close your doors, tell yourself some home truths, and reassess the areas of friction will be a measure of your competence to the public. I don’t see this as a breaking point. It’s a lesson. It’s a deep lesson for us.”
PDP Still Recoverable, George Insists
George dismissed claims that the PDP is beyond repair. He said elders in the party must take charge of the situation.
“It is the responsibility of the elders, the custodian of the liabilities and the assets of the party to weigh in.”
He addressed confusion over the legality of the NEC meeting. He said some members argued that 21 days’ notice must be given to INEC. Others said the meeting was simply postponed until June 30.
“Everybody is interpreting it in different manners. But let me tell you, there is no organisation anywhere in the world you will not have crisis.”
George called on party members to shift focus from petty issues and return to core party discipline.
George spoke strongly about FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and his public alignment with APC’s President Tinubu. He said Wike cannot claim to own the PDP.
“When did Wike join the party? Who said he owns it? Okay. He has contributed his quota, yes. But to say he owns the party, that’s a fallacy.”
George urged party loyalists not to be distracted by individual influence or media noise.
Despite the internal divisions, George remains confident in the PDP’s structure and potential to rebound.
“The only local political party in this country is PDP. No matter, anybody who wants to move off like a rolling stone, they can go. Leave those who are remaining, and we will bring this party back up.”
He said the PDP’s national presence, unlike other regional parties, gives it a solid base for recovery and continued relevance in Nigeria’s politics.
