Governor Hope Uzodimma has said his administration has constructed more roads than all previous governments in Imo State since 1999 combined.
He made this known on Tuesday while presenting the State of the State Address to lawmakers at the Imo State House of Assembly in Owerri.
“Without sounding immodest, we have constructed more roads than all previous administrations since 1999, combined,” he said. “From the dualised Owerri-Orlu and Owerri-Okigwe roads to the MCC-Toronto-Uratta corridor, this administration has shown that government can indeed be responsive to the people’s needs.”
According to Uzodimma, his administration has completed over 120 roads. He added that 37 new roads were delivered in just 18 months.
Major Infrastructure and Federal Support
The governor announced some completed projects, including the Assumpta Flyover, the Government House Annex in Orlu, and the new Concorde-Hilton Hotel. He also mentioned the newly built International Conference Centre.
“We delivered 37 brand new roads, an iconic edifice — the International Conference Centre — and a befitting Government House Annex in Orlu,” Uzodimma told the lawmakers.
President Bola Tinubu is expected to visit Imo in August to commission more completed projects. The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reportedly promised to provide streetlights for several newly built roads.
Governor Uzodimma said his administration has renovated 305 primary schools, several secondary schools, and is currently funding five tertiary institutions. He thanked President Tinubu for a ₦39 billion take-off grant for a new federal university in the state.
In health, he said the Imo State University Teaching Hospital (IMSUTH) has been recovered and improved. He also announced the rehabilitation of 305 health centres, the equipping of general hospitals, and the restoration of full accreditation for three nursing schools.
He added that the Imo Health Insurance Scheme now provides free medical care for residents.
Youth Development, Agriculture and Security
Uzodimma stated that the state has trained 40,000 youths in digital skills and given them startup funds.
He also said Imo recorded progress in agriculture, housing, land reforms, and power. The state is reportedly working to deliver 24-hour electricity.
On security, Uzodimma declared that peace has returned to Imo. He warned criminals to stay away. “No form of banditry or violence will be tolerated,” he said.
The governor said the state’s Internally Generated Revenue grew from an average of ₦400 million in 2020 to almost ₦4 billion in 2025.
He added that Imo’s debt dropped sharply from ₦259 billion in 2020 to ₦99 billion in 2025.
Uzodimma also mentioned that the state won 85 medals in various sports competitions and promised more reforms in the judiciary.
