Jimmy Swaggart, one of the most recognised televangelists in the world, remains in intensive care after suffering cardiac arrest at his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The 90-year-old collapsed early on Sunday, June 15, which happened to be Father’s Day. Friends nearby responded quickly, and emergency medical teams arrived soon after.
His son, Donnie Swaggart, said the family is preparing for any outcome. “Without a miracle, his time is short,” Donnie told the congregation during a sermon later that day. The family has since stayed close to the hospital, hoping for recovery but also bracing for the worst.
Swaggart’s spokesperson said the pastor had no known major illnesses. However, he had been experiencing unexplained falls recently. Just a day before the incident, he fell again and needed his son’s help to get back up. Despite this, Swaggart had made plans to preach on Sunday morning. Swaggart’s wife was reportedly present when he went into cardiac arrest. Two of his close friends who were nearby gave him CPR until the emergency medical team arrived. According to a family statement on social media, Swaggart’s condition has not changed as of Tuesday morning.
