Residents of Tadurga village in Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State are still in shock after a deadly attack by suspected bandits on Monday night, June 16. The armed group stormed the quiet rural settlement, killing many and abducting several others in an assault described as terrifying and violent.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived in large numbers around nightfall, heavily armed with sophisticated weapons. They began shooting into the air to create panic and fear among villagers.

According to one resident, “They came en masse, shooting sporadically. They looted shops, abducted many villagers, k!lled several others, and made away with cattle.”

Shops in the area were ransacked, and livestock was rustled, leaving many families without their means of livelihood. While villagers fled into nearby bushes for safety, others were either captured or injured. Some residents say the village has never experienced this level of violence before.

At the moment, the number of abducted persons remains unknown. Local leaders say they are compiling a list of the missing, while several bodies have already been recovered and buried.

Fear of another attack has driven some families to temporarily relocate from Tadurga to nearby towns.

Police Respond as Fear Grips the Region

Confirming the incident, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, said that the force has launched a full investigation into the attack. He assured the public that tactical teams have been deployed to restore calm and track down the suspects.

Security sources noted that similar attacks had occurred in nearby areas in recent weeks, suggesting a rise in bandit operations across Kebbi and parts of the North-West. Observers say these attacks are often linked to armed groups who exploit weak security presence and poor road access in rural zones.

A youth leader in the village said, “We are afraid to stay here again. We need protection and help from the government. Our people are dying.”

As of Tuesday morning, the village remained tense. Families continued counting their losses, while traditional leaders met to discuss support for victims and plans for community protection.
